DISASTER DEBRIS REMOVAL TO BEGIN IN SOUTH DAYTONA

SOUTH DAYTONA – Recovery efforts are underway in South Daytona in response to Hurricane Matthew. Clearing and removing disaster debris is a major part of the recovery effort. South Daytona, using the contracted services of AshBritt, will begin collection and removal in our City on Tuesday, October 11. In order to maximize FEMA reimbursement to the City, we are targeting to have all debris removal done within three weeks.

Please be advised that debris removal crews WILL NOT enter onto private property to collect or remove debris.

Residents should separate vegetative debris from construction and demolition debris.

  • Vegetative Debris: Trees, limbs, brush, leaves (unbagged)
  • Other Debris: Structural materials, demolition debris, metal, wood, concrete, shingles, carpeting, drywall, etc.

Hazardous materials, such as paint, solvents, batteries and pesticides will not be collected. In addition, no electronic devices or appliances will be accepted during hurricane debris removal.

All debris must be place in separate piles as noted above, at the curb in the public right-of-way. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to bring the debris to the curb and separate it.  Right-of-way is the area of residential property that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole or easement. Do not place debris near water meter vaults, fire hydrants, mail boxes, any above-ground utility and do not block drainage ditches.

Please note that this operation is ONLY for disaster debris. Please do not place regular garbage or other household refuge with the disaster debris, it will not be accepted. Household debris and recycling will be picked up on regularly scheduled days by Waste Pro.

If all debris is not picked up during the initial pass, residents should continue to place remaining debris curbside for collection on a secondary collection that will be scheduled in 1-2 weeks. Residents may call Public Works at 322-3080 for specific questions.
