Professional Profile

Ronald R. Wright was named Acting Chief of Police of the South Daytona Police Department on January 11, 2013.  On September 30, 2013, he was appointed as permanent Chief.  Prior to his appointment, he had served as Patrol Commander and Professional Standards Lieutenant of the department.

Chief Wright began his career in 1978 as a reserve Police Officer, serving with the Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach Police Departments.  In 1979, he became a full-time Police Officer, serving the cities of Ponce Inlet and Daytona Beach.  He continued his law enforcement career with the Port Orange Police Department, serving there from 1982 until 1989, at which time he relocated to the South Daytona Police Department.  He has been honored as Police Officer of the Year for the years 1986, 1998 and 2005.

During his career with the South Daytona Police Department, Chief Wright rose through the ranks, having served as Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Acting Police Chief.  Having been involved in a variety of duties, his career has included Field Training Officer/Commander, Traffic Homicide Investigator, Crime Scene Sketch Artist, State Certified Report Writing Instructor, Recruitment Officer, Background Investigator, Internal Affairs Investigator, Accreditation Manager and Public Information Officer.  He has also overseen the areas of training and forfeitures.

Ron graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.  He is also a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development and Florida Police Chiefs Association Future Law Enforcement Executive seminars.  He is a member of the Volusia-Flagler Police Chiefs Association, Halifax Lodge #81 of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
