Economic Development Report

Economic Development Report The Economic Development Project Report presented to the City Council in December 2015 is available online.

John Wanamaker and Rosie Hartman of Coldwell Banker Commercial AI Group reviewed our US1 corridor and vacant parcels of land located on the Halifax River with US1 frontage as well as those with only US1 frontage.  The City’s focus was on determining if there are any barriers to development and if so is there any the City can help remove.

The report outcomes suggest that the current zoning and future land use can be a challenge and we have met with several of the realtors and owners of the parcels to discuss the status of development and what process they will need to follow to rezone those properties.  We expect to take one of those properties to our Land Development Regulation Board in March and to City Council in March and April for a request to change the zoning and land use designations.  The City anticipates that other properties will be utilizing the same process in order to create a more attractive development zoning.

Economic Development NewsDuring a recent economic development project report, it was revealed that many realtors and business owners would like to see the US1 Streetscape expand to include the entire US1 corridor.  The City Council and City Manager also have targeted these these improvements as a priority public improvement project.

In fact, the River to Sea Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) annual call for project applications for grant funding was announced early this year.  Funding request applications to this agency allows eligible public improvement projects to be considered for grant dollars through the Florida Department of Transportation.

The City of South Daytona will resubmit their request for funding for the US1 Streetscape Project Phase II from just south of Big Tree Road to the south city limits.
