POSITION:  Code Enforcement Officer – Rental Housing Inspector
STARTING PAY: $16.08 per hour
VACANCY DATE:  Immediately

 

High school diploma, GED, or other certificate of competency; supplemented by two years of experience in code inspection work involving public contact.  Must have great people skills and the ability to communicate with the public.  Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.  Must be certified in the Fundamentals of Code Enforcement (Level I) prescribed by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement within one (1) year of appointment. A comparable amount of education, training or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.  Applicant must be able to successfully complete all phases of the pre-employment selection process and be nicotine free.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides citizens with the highest quality of service while upholding and enforcing Codes and Standards established to protect property values, owner investments and improve health, safety and welfare of the citizens of South Daytona.
  • Conducts inspections on all rental housing in the City.
  • Maintains files, creates reports and updates the City’s rental housing program database.
  • Maintains continuous check of all business activities in the City with regard to City Codes and Ordinances.
  • Patrols the City in search of violations of codes and ordinance violations.
  • Makes reports of possible code or ordinance violations.
  • Prepares and submits activity reports.
  • Assists the public in understanding various code and ordinance regulations and requirements. Responds to requests for assistance from the public.
  • Handles complaints received by the Department concerning code and ordinance violations.
  • Investigates and prepares cases concerning code or ordinance violations for consideration by the administrative, quasi-judicial, and judicial entities.  Files cases and testifies.
